Buckhead Village says sales trouncing pre-pandemic numbers

With one-third of 2023 already in the history books, Jamestown officials say their goal of listening to community feedback and changing Buckhead Village accordingly is continuing to pay dividends.
The developer behind Ponce City Market and Westside Provisions District bought the hobbling shopping hub in 2019 and hosted town-hall discussions that suggested surrounding neighborhoods wanted a more dynamic commercial district, with a focus on smaller brands and innovative restaurant concepts that didn’t shed its luxury moxie.
According to Jamestown officials, that’s been delivered, with more to come.
More than a dozen new leases and eight renewals have been signed over the past year, absorbing about 47,000 square feet of Buckhead Village space, as Jamestown reps relayed in an update this week.
Across the property, stores that were operating at Buckhead Village prior to the COVID-19 pandemic have seen sales spike more than 33 percent versus 2019. The district’s food and beverage tenants saw record sales in 2022, notching numbers 8.7 percent over 2021 and 7.6 percent over 2019, according to the report.
On the luxury retailer front, gross sales numbers in 2022 trounced 2019’s by nearly 63 percent, per Jamestown.
Officials credit seasonal events such as the district’s German Christkindl Market and April’s Bodacious Blooms Flower Festival, which counted 20,000 visitors, with helping to drive sales.
Eight new retail and food options (find a full rundown here, from September) are also credited with attracting new patronage.
Jamestown shed “The Shops Buckhead Atlanta” name and adopted simply “Buckhead Village” as part of a rebranding push in 2020. The district covers a half-dozen blocks with 300,000 square feet of retail, replacing Buckhead’s former party mecca of the same name.
Five more concepts remain in the Buckhead Village pipeline right now. Here’s a quick preview, as provided by Jamestown this week:
Carmel: A new restaurant opening May 16 from the team behind Bellina Alimentari, Atrium, Aziza, Falafel Nation, and Rina, inspired by the culture and cuisine of the coast.
Brush Sushi: From the team behind Decatur’s Brush Sushi Izakaya, including James Beard nominated Chef Jason Liang, pastry masterchef Ching Yao Wang and business partner John Chen, the new concept will feature shareable dishes grilled using Binchotan charcoal and techniques focused on seasonal and detailed preparation of aging and curing of the fish.
